Everything Must Go

I'm running a free Kindle promotion for Shadow Song next week. I've got to get things moving! I managed to reap eleven free downloads for Lies and Love in May, but I'm sick of nothing happening.

I read part of Shadow Song's preview on Amazon, and it's good. Naturally, I found a missing comma, but I'm sure not taking the book down to fix that. I would love to know, however, why my one KENP read only amounted to two pages. Initially I worried that there was too much setup, but there isn't. And the writing is good. Some people are just picky assholes, I guess. Two pages! How can a person even judge a book by two pages? I guess when you're reading for free, you've got a hundred books to choose from and you can be a jerk about it.

Do I sound bitter? 😛

Seriously, though, I'm considering dropping KENP. Those three cents I earn from it aren't going to buy me a mansion. And here's the thing: Authors are sensitive people. For the same reason I refuse to read reviews, I don't want to look at my marketing report and find that someone dropped my book after only a couple of pages. Is it me? Did I do a bad job? Am I a failure as a writer? Yet Shadow Song got good reviews. It's hard to resolve those disparities. My goal is to avoid news that beats me down, and if unenrolling from KENP helps with that, I'm willing to take that step.

I just want to write and let the chips fall. If they fall off a cliff, I prefer not to know.
