Upcoming

As the calendar turns...

Tomorrow being the first day of February, I realize I have a couple of things happening:

  1. I may or may not have a Library Thing giveaway starting. I never received any notification, and the last time (the only other time) I tried to run one, I was declined, which in effect is the story of my life. I checked the site today, which is a giant morass to navigate, and somehow stumbled upon my upcoming giveaway. I apparently agreed to award 30 copies (!!) I sure hope the winners accept epubs or PDF's, because I'm not about to buy thirty copies of my novella from Amazon to give away.
  2. My February newsletter will be delivered to my followers' in-boxes. I hope they like the recipe. 🙄 I would ask them what they'd like to see, but I doubt anyone would care enough to respond. Good thing I double-checked the thing, because I had a typo ~ not a good look for an author.

Other Notes:

  • I guess I have no Amazon followers. I went into my Author Central account to remove the video I'd made to advertise the novel I just unpublished, and I noticed that not only does Amazon no longer post videos (thankfully), but they've added a couple of new features. One is book recommendations. An author may recommend her own books in the following categories:
    • What's your most talked about book?
    • What book do you wish more readers knew about?
    • What book should readers start with?
    • What's a book readers can get lost in?

I answered three of those questions, but the "start with" I'd already used for another category, and books can't be used more than once.

That would all be great, but as I said, I have no followers. The site kept telling me where to find mine, but I couldn't. It turns out that heading is only displayed when one has followers. I initially saw this when I was reading about the feature:

But then I realized that was simply an example. Which I should have known (duh). Even my new LinkedIn "friend" didn't reciprocate by following me.

Which leads me to...

  • LinkedIn is great, if one wants to receive a ton of unsolicited messages. Everybody loves me! Okay, but only if I agree to buy their services. I've begun simply deleting the email notifications. I'm not in the market to buy anything.
  • I did get another request for an ARC copy. That makes three. Three is better than zero. I won't be trolling for readers anymore, but shoot, at least three people might read my new project.
  • Reddit is kind of fun and interesting. There are more robust conversations happening there than on any other site I frequent. (And yes, I realize I'm not in their target demographic.)

As you can see, I've done little to nothing today. That's okay; one doesn't always need to be doing something.
